All these species have been seen or heard in/over the Skyline West Neighborhood.
This list is not exhaustive and other bird species certainly occur in Skyline West.

1. Greater White-fronted Goose – flocks occasionally seen & heard overhead during migration
2. Cackling Goose – flocks occasionally seen and heard overhead during migration
3. Canada Goose – flocks occasionally seen and heard overhead during migration
4. Wood Duck – rare year-round visitor to neighborhood; may nest
5. Gadwall – rare winter visitor to neighborhood
6. Mallard – uncommon year-round visitor to neighborhood; may nest
7. Hooded Merganser – uncommon year-round visitor to neighborhood; nests nearby
8. Mountain Quail – rare year-round visitor to neighborhood; may nest
9. California Quail – fairly common year-round resident in neighborhood; nests
10. Wild Turkey – common year-round resident in neighborhood; introduced gamebird; nests
11. Great Blue Heron – uncommon year-round visitor to neighborhood
12. Turkey Vulture – common summer resident seen overhead and in neighborhood; may nest
13. Osprey - uncommon year-round visitor seen overhead from neighborhood
14. Bald Eagle – uncommon year-round visitor seen overhead from neighborhood
15. Northern Harrier – uncommon year-round visitor seen overhead from neighborhood
16. Sharp-shinned Hawk – uncommon year-round resident; common in migration; may nest
17. Cooper’s Hawk - common year-round resident; nests in neighborhood
18. Red-shouldered Hawk – in last 5 years has become a common year-round resident; nests
19. Red-tailed Hawk – common year-round resident; frequently seen circling overhead; nests
20. Killdeer – uncommon year-round visitor to neighborhood
21. Wilson’s Snipe – rare winter visitor to neighborhood
22. Band-tailed Pigeon – common summer resident in neighborhood
23. Eurasian Collared-Dove – in last 5 years has become common year-round resident; introduced
24. American Mourning Dove - common year-round resident in neighborhood; nests
25. Western Screech-Owl – uncommon year-round resident in neighborhood; may nest
26. Great Horned Owl – fairly common year-round resident in neighborhood; nests
27. Northern Pygmy-Owl – uncommon year-round resident in neighborhood; may nest
28. Barred Owl – uncommon year-round resident; recent arrival from eastern U.S.
29. Northern Saw-whet Owl – rare visitor to neighborhood during migration
30. Vaux’s Swift – uncommon summer resident seen overhead from neighborhood; may nest
31. Anna’s Hummingbird – common year-round resident in neighborhood; nests
32. Calliope Hummingbird – rare spring visitor to neighborhood during migration
